The
Banking Laws Review Commission (BLRC) has been constituted by
the Government of Pakistan with a mandate to modernize Pakistan’s
financial sector laws. One of the key areas for reform identified
by the Commission is to recommend to the Government of Pakistan
to promulgate a new banking Act suited to the requirements of
modern banking. The draft Banking Act has been finalized by
the Commission and being place for comments. We, at the Banking
Laws Review Commission would like the informed public to give
us the benefit of their views and suggestions. In particular,
we would like to hear from legal practitioners, accountants,
bankers, businessmen, academics and interested citizens. You
can make a direct impact on the future direction of the new
law by identifying the major weaknesses in the current laws
and procedures as well as key concerns and issues that should
be considered in the framing of the new law. The commission
will read all submissions and may invite selected individuals
to present their views in person. The deadline for submission
of views / comments (by mail, fax or e-mail) is July 31, 2006.
