About SBPBSC

The SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of State Bank of Pakistan in January, 2002, under the SBP Banking Services Corporation Ordinance 2001.

As an operational arm of the Central Bank, SBP Banking Services Corporation is engaged in managing currency, foreign exchange operations and foreign exchange adjudication; providing banking services to the federal and provincial governments and financial institutions regulated by State Bank of Pakistan, conducting development finance activities in support of the development finance group of the SBP, implementing export refinance schemes, and performing agency functions like sale/purchase of national prize bonds including managing prize money draws, sale and purchase of national saving schemes or any other functions assigned by State Bank of Pakistan.

Governance Structure of SBP-BSC

According to Section 7 (1) of the SBP-BSC Ordinance 2001, general superintendence, direction and management of the affairs and business of the SBP-BSC and overall policy making in respect of its operations is vested in the Board of Directors which may exercise all such powers and do all such acts, deeds and things that may be exercised or done by SBP-BSC. In discharging its functions, the Board ensures compliance with the orders and directions that may be issued by SBP from time to time.

The Managing Director (MD) is the Chief Executive Officer of SBP BSC and controls the affairs of the Bank on behalf of the Board of Directors. The Managing Director has been empowered to conduct business and manage the affairs of the Bank except for the matters that fall, specifically, under the purview of the Board. The Managing Director is assisted by a team of Heads of Departments and Chief Managers as laid out in the Organogram above.

Field offices of the bank generally provide the following banking services:

  • Currency management services (rental, exchange and destruction of currency notes)
  • Coin management (receipt and collection)
  • Collection Of government taxes and duties
  • Government payments management (salaries, pensions and suppliers)
  • Government Debt Management (Management of National Prize Bonds and Special Savings Certificates/Defense Savings Certificates schemes by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS), National Savings, Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad)
  • Facilitating the transfer of government funds
  • Provision of locker facilities to the government for safe deposit of goods
  • Providing convenience to customers for general banking complaints
  • Other banking services required by government sectors on an ad hoc basis


Further, for proper and effective management of matters related to the issue of notes/currency. there are four Currency Issue Circle Offices of the Bank,
