The CAD ensures uninterrupted availability of high-quality banknotes, coins, National Prize Bonds, and Savings Certificates across Pakistan. Its responsibilities include managing Cash Operations, Currency Accounting, Examination, and Destruction of currency through high-end Banknote Processing & Authentication Systems and Banknote Disintegration Systems installed at SBP BSC field offices. In this endeavor, CAD is actively driving digitization and automation, while minimizing manual interventions under a strengthened controls regime.

CAD also monitors commercial banks’ compliance with SBP’s Currency Management Strategy and Banknote Packing Instructions, supported by dedicated Cash Monitoring Teams. Through its 16 field offices, CAD also conducts awareness programs on Banknote Security Features for the general public, Currency Management Strategy & Banknote Packing Instructions for commercial banks and use of Alternate Delivery Channels (ADC) for the Government of Pakistan at federal and provincial levels.

In collaboration with Law Enforcement Agencies, CAD takes active measures to curb counterfeiting and continues to strengthen its detection capacity through advanced equipment and a dedicated forensic laboratory.

The Currency and Accounts Department (CAD) of SBP-BSC is also responsible for maintaining, consolidation and reporting of government accounts along with preparation of financial statements for BSC, preparation and monitoring of annual Revenue and Capital Budgets and managing the assets of BSC (physical as well as their system data). Further Department manages the unclaimed deposits and also manages investment portfolio.
