A HALF–DAY WORKSHOP ON “BASEL II”

Surveillance Department organized a half-day Workshop on “BASEL
II” for State Bank of Pakistan’s officials of Banking
Cluster on Monday, 12th March, 2007 at the SBP Learning Resource
Centre, Karachi. As a part of its ongoing efforts to the capacity
building of State Bank of Pakistan’s officials, the Director-BSD
invited Mr. Christian Marlier, Sr. Director & Head of CRO, Fortis
Group, Brussels, who is also a former Director, Credit Risk Management
and Fortis Representative for Working Group on Basel II Implementation,
to conduct the Workshop.
The
aim of the Workshop was to get in round SBP officials to familiarize
them with Basel II: Risk Model Validation, its impact on regulatory
authorities & their role and Basel II compliance. Total 25 officers
from Banking Cluster including the Banking Inspection (On-site)
Department, Off-site Supervision & Enforcement Department, SME
& Microfinance Department, Islamic Banking Department and Banking
Surveillance Department participated in the said Workshop.
At the end of the Workshop, Mr. Christian invited the participants
to a Question & Answer session in which participants shared
their views and knowledge gained during the session.
