Dear Sirs,

HARMONIZED SYSTEM CODE NUMBERS

It has been brought to our notice that some of the Authorised Dealers are not aware of the system being followed in respect of adoption of Harmonized Coding Numbers required for establishing Letters of Credit.

2. Their attention is invited to Schedule-II of the Import Trade Control Order 1991 (which was based on Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) was discontinued with effect from 17th July, 1998. Since then in its place Schedule-I of the Customs Act 1969 (which is also based on Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) is referred to for the purpose for opening of Letters of Credit and interpretation of the Import Trade and Procedure Order 2000 as reflected in para 5 of the said Order.

3. Accordingly all Authorised Dealers are advised to comply with existing arrangement for opening of Letters of Credit.
