Dear Sirs,

STUDIES ABROAD

Attention of the authorized Dealers in invited to the instructions contained in paragraph 39, Chapter XVII of the Foreign Exchange Manual in terms of which they are authorized to release foreign exchange for approved studies abroad. It has been reported that some Pakistan nationals living in Pakistan were financing the studies of their wards abroad from their foreign currency accounts, and they now wish to remit funds in accordance with the procedure laid down in the manual. It has been decided that the Authorized Declares may release foreign exchange in all such cases for amounts due for June, 1998 and onwards against rupee funds to be provided by the remitters, if the conditions laid down in the Manual are fulfilled. Authorized Dealers may advise their affected customers to send the prescribed application form (Appendix V-88) to their wards, which should be filled in and signed, got certified from the institution concerned and sent to the Authorized Dealer alongwith a copy of the National Identity Card, certificate of academic qualification achieved before taking up the present studies, and evidence of scholarship / assistantship, if any. Authorized Dealers may process all such cases in accordance with the procedure laid down in para 39 referred to above. In case of any doubt, they may contact the nearest office of the Foreign Exchange Department for guidance.
