State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) - the country’s central bank, is chartered with the conduct of monetary policy with the objective of achieving price and financial stability. With regards to achieving these objectives and to appraise the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on the country’s economy in a forward looking manner, SBP has an active research culture. Major activities are focused on deepening the understanding of monetary policy transmission and structural issues hindering Pakistan’s growth potential, development and improvement of forecasting models along with pertinent scenario analyses and policy simulations.

In order to enhance its research and forecasting capabilities, especially under emerging issues related to climate change and digitalization, SBP is seeking candidates for the roles of Research Economist from reputable national and international universities. The position is based in Karachi.

Research Economist - Economic Modelling (on Contract)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide theoretically consistent and empirically backed analyses to management regarding monetary policy formulation.
  • Effectively forecast key macroeconomic variables by executing general equilibrium models, especially DSGE models and those involving large datasets.
  • Improve upon the existing inventory of forecasting models.
  • Develop new general equilibrium models to address emerging economic issues.
  • Lead a team of entry-level economic analysts and develop their expertise in macroeconomic modelling.
  • Contribute to SBP’s research and capacity-building goals by delivering effective presentations on monetary policy and evidence-based research.
  • Perform research on monetary policy effectiveness in Pakistan.
