State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Central Bank, is looking for skilled and enthusiastic professional for following positions in Museum, Art Gallery & Archives Department (MAG&AD). The positions are based in Karachi.

Assistant Curator (OG-2)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Manage museum collection in reserves and exhibit areas including space planning and proper housing to ensure long-term preservation by following ICOM standards.
  • Identify artifacts for acquisitions and loaning of collection for museum.
  • Trace the provenance of museum artifacts applying best practices for authenticating, evaluating, and categorizing them.
  • Identify conservation and preservation need of museum collection according to UNESCO’s guidelines.
  • Document technical data (physical properties, production technology, and historical context) of museum artifacts.
  • Conduct research on museum collections, specifically focusing on ancient coins to determine their historical importance.
  • Prepare and display descriptive labels of artifacts in the Museum.
  • Identify and assist Acquisition Committee to acquire artifact.
  • Assist the team lead in selection of artifacts for display and rotation of artifacts to and fro reserve and exhibits.
  • Assist the team lead to prepare loan documents/contracts/Insurance documents etc. for travel and exhibition, including soft packing and crating.
  • Assist the team lead in exhibit creation, educational programming and research in accordance with guidelines of ICOM.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of museology to ensure that the organization continues to apply the best practices.
  • Carry out or commission research on issues related to the museum and cultural heritage to ensure that the museum is applying right tools and practices in line with the latest research.
  • Develop close working relationships with other key functions in the organization.

Digital Museum Officer (OG-2)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Create, manage, and maintain high-quality digital assets, including high-resolution photography, 3D models, audio/video recordings, and basic animations.
  • Identify and implement emerging technologies (AR, VR, holograms, interactive exhibits, digitization equipment, cloud storage) to support the museum’s digital transformation.
  • Collaborate with the curatorial teams to ensure accurate metadata and contextual information for all digital assets.
  • Coordinate with curatorial, IT, and education teams to maintain a cohesive and integrated digital presence.
  • Update contents for interactive kiosks, holograms, online platforms, and educational use.
  • Develop interactive multimedia content to effectively communicate museum knowledge and promote public programs.
  • Explore digital solutions to improve visitor engagement and interaction with exhibits.
  • Liaise with other museums, universities, cultural institutions, and tech companies to explore digital innovations and collaborative projects.
  • Manage and regularly update the museum website and social media platforms, ensuring accessibility, accuracy, and visual impact.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright, intellectual property rights, and data protection standards in all digital initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of museology and technology to ensure that the organization continues to apply the best practices.
  • Carry out or commission research related to museum innovation to ensure that the museum is applying right tools and practices.

Museum Manager (OG-2)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Arrange and install exhibition displays, including currency, coin trays, magnified presentations, and digital interactives, ensuring stability, visibility, and accurate placement of interpretive materials.
  • Assist in planning exhibition layouts, ensuring precise alignment, secure object placement, and efficient visitor flow.
  • Monitor visitor traffic patterns and recommend adjustments to displays or layouts to avoid congestion.
  • Maintain museum environments in line with ICOM guidelines on temperature, humidity, and lighting standards, ensuring microclimate stability in the main hall, galleries, and storage areas while adhering to conservation and security protocols.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the heritage museum building and galleries, including routine upkeep such as lighting replacement, fixture touch-ups, and inspection of display cases to ensure safety, climate control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Photograph artifacts and exhibition displays for documentation, archives, and digital catalogues.
  • Pack, unpack, and transport numismatic objects for exhibition, storage, or conservation, following proper handling protocols for fragile and high-value items.
  • Monitor exhibition components for signs of damage or deterioration and coordinate with conservators for timely treatment.
  • Collaborate with conservation and curatorial teams in the preservation, management, and display of collections.
  • Manage the transportation, storage, and insurance of collections, particularly for loans and special exhibitions.
  • Monitor security protocols in galleries and storage areas and liaise with security staff to safeguard collections and visitors.
  • Initiate and coordinate procurement processes for exhibition, display, and operational requirements of the museum.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, business plans, risk management strategies, and audit compliance reports.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of museology to ensure that the organization continues to apply the best practice.
  • Develop close working relationships with other key functions in the organization.

Research & Education Officer (OG-2)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Plan, design, and implement educational programs, workshops, and resources for educational institutions and diverse audiences.
  • Develop innovative educational experiences such as games, interactive storyboards, and digital learning tools for children and young audiences.
  • Develop partnerships with educational institutions, NGOs, cultural organizations etc, and organize outreach programs to engage schoolchildren, underrepresented groups, and diverse communities.
  • Coordinate with speakers facilitators from relevant departments to support learning initiatives.
  • Research, develop and produce museum publications and learning materials including booklets, educational packs, newsletters and digital content for both academic and general audiences.
  • Identify areas for future research on the museum’s collection by engaging with the academic and research community.
  • Conduct surveys and collect feedback to assess the impact of educational and learning programs.
  • Stay updated on current trends in museology, education, and digital learning to apply new approaches in museum education.
  • Incorporate psychology and neuroscience insights into program design to enhance visitor-learning experiences.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of museology to ensure that the organization continues to apply the best practice.
  • Carry out or commission research on issues related to museum education to ensure that the museum is applying right tools and practices that are in line with the latest research.
  • Develop close working relationships with other key functions in the organization.
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the fields of museology to ensure that the organization continues to take advantage of the latest thinking.
