State Bank of Pakistan-the central bank, regulates the monetary and credit system of the country and fosters its growth in the best national interest with a view to securing monetary stability and optimum utilization of the country’s productive resources.
Candidates are sought for the roles of research economists groomed at reputable universities and research institutions with proven research exposure, preferably in an international competitive environment. We are seeking thinkers.
The incumbents are expected to take part in:
- providing intellectual and analytical support in the formulation of monetary policy
- regular forecasts of key macroeconomic variables including counterfactual simulation analysis and contribute in the up-gradation of existing in-house DSGE and econometric models
-
designing and managing large scale surveys and carry out rigorous statistical analysis therein
- undertaking research and analysis on economic and financial issues
- developing policy briefs on economic trends, developments and outlook to assist policy formulation and appraisal
- prepare working papers and briefs for senior management, Monetary Policy Committee and Monetary & Fiscal Policy Coordination Board
- contributing in various publications including Annual and Quarterly Reports on the state of economy, SBP Research Bulletin and SBP Working Paper Series
- publishing research work in reputable journals and seeking international research collaborations in areas emphasized in SBP’s strategic plan 2020.
The incumbents must have either a Ph.D or an MPhil in Economics/Finance or Statistics/Econometrics from a renowned university. International exposure would be an asset. Moreover, a minimum 2- and 4-years of proven relevant experience is required for candidates having a Ph.D. and M-Phil degree respectively.
Applicants will need to demonstrate:

- adaptability to fast-paced, dynamic and competitive environment.
- knowledge of Pakistan’s economy particularly monetary, financial and external sectors
- understanding of global economic and financial issues
- ability to inform balanced perspectives when forming policy judgments
- sound knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques for analytical purpose, from both a micro and macroeconomic perspectives
- ability to code/develop/evaluate Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium models
- proficiency in advanced applied statistical methodologies
- familiarity with statistical datasets in Pakistan
- proficiency of econometric software(s) especially STATA, E-views and MATLAB
- analytical skills and command of English language
