As you are aware, the old system of Credit Information Bureau
(CIB) has been discontinued and the new system is fully
operational from June 1, 2006. We are pleased to inform
you that 96 out of 107 member institutions have reported
data of about 2.89 million borrowers to CIB for the month
of April, 2006.
It
has been observed that some of the FIs have submitted
partial data about their borrowers and have reported the
data of their consumer borrowers with old NIC number,
while others have reported the same consumer borrowers
with the CNIC number. The reporting of the same borrowers
with two identities i.e. old NIC and CNIC number has resulted
in the creation of two Credit Worthiness Reports (CWR)
of the same borrower. You are, therefore, advised to check
the credit worthiness of the consumer borrowers from CIB
by using both old NIC and CNIC number before taking any
credit decision.
You
are also advised to ensure reporting of the complete data
of the borrowers of your bank for the month of May 2006
to the CIB. Further, it is also advised to collect CNICs
of all the consumer borrowers and report their data to
CIB with old NIC, as well as CNIC numbers, to avoid duplication
of CWR. In case the CNIC number of any borrower is not
available, you may also take help from Verisys system
of NADRA.
