State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Central Bank, is looking for talented and energetic candidates for the following contractual positions in the Museum, Art Gallery and Archives Department, based at Karachi.

 

Assistant Curator


Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Tracing the provenance of objects in the Museum.

  • Authenticating, evaluating and categorizing objects.

  • Conduct research based on the museum's collections.

  • Prepare index cards of coins/stamps/currency etc.

  • Cataloguing of coins with its complete history like ruler, mint, legend, series, monograph and context.

  • Investigate Technical Analysis of each coin like weighing, thickness, diameter and metal.

  • Provide authentication and verification to artifacts from studying different coins catalogues.

  • Develop descriptive labels of selected antiquities to be displayed in the Museum.

  • Make sure about physical existence of antiquities.

  • Apart from cataloguing and indexing of coins, will trace the missing links of different dynasties to maintain chronological sequence in the history of coins, stamps, currency etc.

  • Respond to all forms of communication regarding reference and research questions from students, scholars, and general public.

  • Assist in the management of physical storage and daily maintenance of the collections and exhibitions, including movement of objects in the collection and monitoring up keep of exhibitions.

  • Responsible for reserve management including space planning and proper housing creating long-term preservation of artifacts.

  • Developing training programs with its scheduling hours.

  • Maintain the accepted national standards at the time of acquisition and processing of archival materials.

  • In consultation with Curator/Antiquity Registrar/Director prepare loans documents/contracts/Insurance documents etc. for travel and exhibition, including soft packing and crating.

  • Work with Curator/Director to plan future acquisitions and loans to the collection. Cultivates collaboration/networking with regional resources that have objects and materials available to loan or donate to the museums’ exhibitions.

  • Design, visualize informative labels and interesting exhibits.

  • Develop and update catalogues for the Museum.

  • Supervise the treatment of diseased/mold growth/fungus of rare coins.

 Eligibility Criteria:


Education:

Must have a Bachelor/ Masters (equivalent Degree, 16 years of education) in Art, History, Archaeology or equivalent from HEC recognized institution or a reputable foreign university.

Age:

Maximum 42 years, as on the last date to submit application. Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.


Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience in the operations of museum, including research works and development of collections.

At least One (01) research catalogue/ One (01) Research Articles on Coins in a reputable research journal is preferable.


Other Attributes:

A thorough knowledge of different scripts such as, Greek, Devanagari and Kharosthi etc. will be preferable.

Gallery Officer


Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Accompanying the visitors to the Museum Department and offering additional information on displays.

  • Designing display cases and setting up display areas.

  • Greetings visitors upon arrival to the institution.

  • Preparing objects and artefacts for display purposes.

  • Researching to verify data or hypotheses.

  • Handling of social Media and other digital technology.

  • Operating of different equipment installed in the museum.

  • Notifying senior officers when repair or replacement is required.

  • Operating inventory control software of Museum’s Souvenir Shop.

  • Handling of Souvenir Shop and related matters e.g. sale/purchase.

  • Coordinate with vendors for preparation of different Souvenir items.

  • Any other task assigned by the Director.

 Eligibility Criteria:


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 14 years of education) in Social Sciences, General History, Business related Education from HEC recognized university or from a reputable foreign university.

Age:

Maximum 30 years, as on the last date to submit application. Relaxation may be allowed in case the candidate possesses additional related experience.


Experience:

Minimum 3 years of related experience in any Museum/Art Gallery.
