Mr. Shamsul Hasan was appointed as Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan by the Government of Pakistan on December 22, 2017 for a period of three years. He assumed his responsibilities from February 12, 2018.

Mr. Hasan brings 38 years of banking experience to the SBP, of which over 25 years are in senior management positions. He possesses extensive and diversified experience in domestic and international banking. In later years of his career, he specialized in corporate and investment banking. He has rich experience of a number of mergers and acquisitions of banks and franchises in Pakistan. Mr. Hasan also worked in various countries with international banks.

Prior to joining SBP, he was a member Board of Directors of a bank where he was also the Chairman of Risk Management Committee of the Board.  During the period 2008-2011, he was Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of a Development Financial Institution. He was also Director of an Islamic Insurance Company and Pakistan Commodities Exchange Limited.

Mr. Hasan is a graduate of Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul, where he obtained his commission as an officer. He voluntarily left Pakistan Army as a Captain to pursue a Banking Career. He has had extensive banking training in all spheres of banking. He also attended various management development programs conducted by INSEAD, France, National University of Singapore, Institute of Islamic Banking, London and Euro Money, London.
