State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Central Bank, regulates the monetary and credit system of the country and fosters its growth in the best national interest with a view to securing monetary stability and optimum utilization of the country’s productive resources. Consistent strengthening of its regulatory and supervisory regime is reflected in the performance and resilience of the banking sector in the face of recent challenging macro financial environment.

SBP is looking for high caliber and dynamic professionals for the CONTRACTUAL positions in Research Department, based at Karachi, with the following specifications:


 

(A) Senior/Lead Economist

 
Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:
Conduct research on topical issues relating to Pakistan’s economy and produce notes/papers in a timely manner on the basis of this research.
Participate in discussions and engage in evidenced-based debates on outlook of the domestic and global economies.
Present research in national/international conferences.
Write research papers using strong writing skills on the assigned projects and contribute to publications in SBP Research Bulletin, SBP working paper Series and Staff Notes.
Provide intellectual and analytical support to the management in policy formulation.
Manage and develop young analysts.
 

 Eligibility Criteria:


Education

Must have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with 16 years of education in Economics or Finance from HEC recognized university or from a reputable foreign university. M.Phil or Ph.D in Economics or Finance will be preferred.

Age:

Maximum 45 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:
Minimum 8 years post qualification relevant experience for 16 years education.

Minimum 6 years post qualification relevant experience for M.Phil.

Minimum 4 years post qualification relevant experience for Ph.D.
Competencies:
Sound knowledge of macroeconomic theory.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills and command of English language.
Proficiency in the use of economic/econometrics software packages.
Knowledge of Pakistan’s economy particularly monetary, financial, and external sectors.
Ability to provide balanced perspectives when forming policy judgments.
Adaptability to work in fast-paced, dynamic, and competitive environment.
Integrity, excellence, and teamwork.
Exhibit leadership, team management, communication and interpersonal skills.

 

(B) Research Economist

 
Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:
Conduct research on topical issues relating to Pakistan’s economy and produce notes/papers in a timely manner on the basis of this research.
Contribute in development of Stochastic Dynamic General Equilibrium Models in consultation with other team members.
Write research papers using strong writing skills to contribute to publications in SBP Research Bulletin, SBP working paper Series and SBP Staff Notes.
Assist in execution of Forecasting and Policy Analysis System (FPAS) for policy simulation.
Contribute to discussions on policy issues and engaging in evidenced based debates.
Deal with references and queries raised by internal and external stakeholders.
 

 Eligibility Criteria:


Education

Must have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with 16 years of education in Economics or Finance from HEC recognized university or from a reputable foreign university. M.Phil or Ph.D in Economics or Finance will be preferred.

Age:

Maximum 40 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:

Minimum 4 years post qualification relevant experience for 16 years education.

Minimum 2 years post qualification relevant experience for M.Phil.

Competencies:
Strong quantitative and analytical skills and command of English language.
Proficiency in the use of economic/econometrics software packages especially MATLAB, Dynare and STATA.
Knowledge of Pakistan’s economy particularly monetary, financial, and external sectors.
Integrity, excellence, and teamwork.

 Compensation

Competitive compensation package, as per State Bank rules.
