Z.D.BARNI (Agha Ziauddin Barni)

Ziauddin Barni later also served as an official photographer for Liaquat Ali Khan and Ayub Khan. In 1951, he had the opportunity to go to Hollywood to train in filmmaking and he began making documentary films, including the first documentary film about the Hajj. He left the government service and established his own production company by the name of Zia Productions, through which he continued making documentaries as well as advertisements for television. He became the correspondent in Pakistan for Visnews, a London-based international news agency, and NBC news (USA) for many years, for which he covered the news from Pakistan and for whom he also covered the 1965 and 1971 wars.

Photography was his passion, and he was blessed with remarkable talent. Aside from his many contributions and the various competitions, newspapers and international journals in which his work was featured, his photographs also appeared in a popular calendar published by PIA, for which he was able to travel the world taking photographs of destinations featured on the calendar. He was an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and a Member of the British Kinematograph Sound and Television Society. He was also a member of the Pakistan Arts Council.

Ziauddin Barni died in 1980 at the age of 68 after a tragic accident. He left behind four beloved daughters. He was a devout yet progressive man, sparing no expense for his daughter's education, and always credited his daughters as being his blessings for the many successes he achieved during his life. Upon his untimely death, Pakistan lost a great photographer, but his enduring legacy will be his incredible photos of Quaid-e-Azam that will be forever treasured by all Pakistanis.
