Dr.
Shamshad Akhtar, the fourteenth governor of the SBP, is the first
woman to hold this post. Her illustrious career includes her appointment
as the DG of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), South East Asia.
She also served as the Deputy Director General of the Department
and as Director, Governance, Finance and Trade Division, East and
Central Asia Department of ADB.
She began her career in ADB in 1990, & rose to the position of Manager.
Before joining ADB, Dr. Akhtar worked for 10 years as Economist
in World Bank's Resident Mission Pakistan, worked briefly with planning
offices of federal & Sindh Govt.
Born in Hyderabad, Dr. Akhtar got early education at Karachi & Islamabad,
