Training
& Development Department (T&DD) was set-up in August,
2007 by upgrading the Training Unit of Administration Department
with specific objectives of capacity building and skill development
of human resource in the Banking Services Corporation (BSC) on
continuous basis. The Change Management initiative and Organizational
Development introduced in the BSC during FY07 critically depends
on the availability of competent workforce. The aim of T&DD
is, thus, to fill the gap between the existing and desired level
of competencies through need based trainings.
As
a first step towards the formulation of a more structured and
need based training strategy, an organization wide survey was
conducted by T&DD to get the first hand information on prevailing
perception of employees towards the significance of training as
a tool for career progression and determining competency gaps
in relation to their present assignments. Focusing on the immediate
as well as future capacity building and skill enhancement needs
of the employees, a comprehensive training strategy is being developed
and implemented by the T&DD. The training priorities and short
and medium-to-long term action plans of T&DD are broadly aligned
with the strategic objectives of the management.
Training
programs catering for the immediate capacity building and skill
enhancement needs have already been introduced, while detailed
training programs are being prepared for implementation in the
coming years. A two pronged strategy have since been adopted to
provide required training interventions in a more cost effective
manner. While arranging the training at premier institutions through
best and relevant resource persons available, in-house expertise
is continuously being developed by conducting Training of Trainers
(TOT) of various modules/programs especially in computer and soft
skills for a select group of employees identified through a rigorous
selection procedure to impart training to other employees of BSC
including field offices.
The
T&DD is now in the process of proactively up-grading its resources
and infrastructure to fully support the needs of organizational
development and capacity building in BSC. It is structured into
three divisions on the basis of relevant work streams.
