State Bank of Pakistan regulates the monetary and credit system of the country and fosters its growth in the best national interest with a view to securing monetary stability and optimum utilization of the country’s productive resources. In order to further strengthen the Bank’s legal function, applications are invited from high calibre and dynamic professionals for the following challenging position, permanently based at Karachi.

Director / Legal Advisor (OG-7)

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

• Lead the legal function to ensure smooth and timely delivery of services to the stakeholders.
• Strategically review and align departmental functions with overall SBP’s objectives and streamline processes and activities to achieve strategic outcomes.
• Provide effective leadership with strategic orientation to gear team efforts towards achievement of departmental objectives.
• Examine and render advice/ opinion on all legal documents/cases of SBP and its subsidiaries in order to safeguard Bank’s interest.
• Prepare draft of new legislation, ordinances, rules and regulations related to the Bank within scope of policy guidelines of Federal Government and SBP and ensuring protection of Bank’s interest.
• Attend courts of law/ tribunals on behalf of SBP and its subsidiaries, whenever it is required.
• Vet legal documents, pleadings, petitions etc. prepared by the Advocate/Legal Counsel to ensure that Bank’s viewpoint is presented and its interest safeguarded.
• Attend meetings/ seminars/ discussions on behalf of SBP pertaining to the legal issues/contracts, policies etc.
• Provide legal expertise to senior management in interpretation of various statutes/ laws and facilitate them in framing policies for the Bank as and when required.
• Recommend amendments in law books containing acts, ordinances, rules and regulations, including Bank’s rules and regulations, on timely basis and conduct research on various laws relevant to the Bank in a professional manner.
• Guide the management in engaging the services of advocates as per their expertise and negotiate their professional fees according to the relevance, gravity and importance of the case.
• Vet documents, pleadings, petitions prepared by outside Counsel and liaise with them closely during litigation/ Court proceedings.
• Provide timely, sound and well thought out researched legal advice on issues related to SBP and its subsidiaries in the following broad areas:

Litigation(Civil/Criminal/ Constitutional) Judicial or Regulatory functions Drafting of Legislation

Banking, Commercial and Corporate Issues Drafting and review of Contracts Service matters

Eligibility Criteria

Qualification	Minimum LLB from HEC recognized university. Preference will be given to candidates having higher legal qualification.
Age	Maximum 52 years, relaxable in case of exceptional qualification or experience.
Experience	At least 18 years of relevant post qualification experience with 10 years in senior management position of well reputed Firm or credible experience with Superior Courts.

Compensation

Competitive compensation and benefits package within approved salary scale of OG-7, commensurate with the experience and qualification of the candidate.
