Circulars/Notifications - Banking Supervision Department
 BSD Circular No. 37
10th October 2001

All Banks,

Dear Sirs/Madam,

Non Performing Loans (NPLs) Database

As you would be aware that compilation of figures of non-performing loans (NPLs) of banks has remained a very problematic issue both for the government as well as for the State Bank of Pakistan in the past. In this connection different figures of NPLs remained under circulation from time to time, which created confusions and doubts in the minds of the general public and policy makers.  As such it has been decided to create a database of NPLs at the State Bank of Pakistan so as to have a consolidated as well as individual borrower wise figures of NPLs on a uniform basis for the purposes of SBP monitoring and for sharing of others banks.

Banks are, therefore, advised to submit to the Credit Information Bureau, data of their non-performing loans of Rs.10 million and above as per enclosed formats on monthly basis, starting from the month of October 2001, within 15 days of the end of each month.

Please acknowledge receipt.
