Circulars/Notifications - Banking Policy Department
BPD Circular Letter No. 15 of 2004
May 11, 2004

The Chief Executives,
All Banks,

Dear Sirs / Madam,

REVIEW OF INSTRUCTIONS ON SERVICE CHARGES
ON PLS DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS

Please refer to BPD Circular No. 23 dated July 04, 2003 on the above subject.
2. In terms of para 3 of the aforesaid circular, banks were directed to exempt the accounts maintained by Students, Mustahiqueen of Zakat, Government / Semi Government Employees for salary / pension purpose from the levy of service charges in any manner whatsoever. However, it has been noted from the schedule of charges of some of the banks and complaints received from different quarters that banks are still levying the service charges on salary / pension accounts of Government / Semi Government employees in one form or the other (e.g. salary disbursement charges etc). Such circumvention of SBP’s instructions has been viewed with concern.
3. All banks are warned to refrain from such practices and avoid recovering of service charges on salary / pension account holders of the above categories in any form whatsoever. Banks are also directed to immediately remove such service charges from their schedule of charges and reimburse the service charges already recovered, if any, on above categories. A confirmation to the same be sent to SBP within 15 days from the date of issue of this circular letter.

4. Please acknowledge receipt.

Yours faithfully

Sd/=

Sr. Joint Director
