 BPD Circular No. 21
August 13, 2002

The Presidents/Chief Executives,
All Banks/NBFIs

Dear Sirs,

Statement of Accounts

It has been reported to SBP that customers of the banks are not receiving periodical statement of accounts in time with the result that they are not aware of the exact balance in their accounts. Due to this, in the recent past, there has been a spate of fraudulent withdrawal of money from the accounts of banks’ customers by some unscrupulous users, sometimes in connivance with the staff. With a view to ensure that customers of banks receive the periodical statements regularly & in time, it has been decided that henceforth the banks shall dispatch the statement of accounts pertaining to current, as well as PLS accounts, having balances of  Rs 10,000/- or above through courier service.

2.      It is further advised that banks shall not charge more than Rs.50/- for duplicate statement of account.

3.      You are advised to amend your banks’ existing schedule of service charges accordingly.

4.       Please acknowledge receipt.

Yours faithfully,
(Muhammad Kamran Shehzad)
Director
