 F.E. Circular No. 26

Dear Sirs,

RESTRICTION ON TRAVEL DURING HAJJ SEASON

Attention is invited to F.E. Circular No. 55 dated the 27th March, 1991 in terms of which relaxation in certain regulations relating to import and export of currency notes and foreign exchange and retention of foreign currency in Pakistan were made.

2. The instructions relating to import and export of currency notes have further been relaxed. Accordingly, the following amendments may please be made in the Foreign Exchange Manual, 6th Edition, 1987:-

  1. Vol-I-Chapter XVIII
    1. i) Paragraph 2 may please be replaced by the following:-

"However, under Notification No.FE. 5/92-SB dated the 28th December, 1992 State Bank has granted general permission for bringing into Pakistan Currency Notes of the Government of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan Notes up to an amount not exceeding Rs.500.00 add Rs.3000.00 in value from India and any country other than India respectively in all per person at any one time".

ii) The words "Notification No.FE.3/91-SB dated the 26th February, 1991" appearing in Paragraph 3 may be amended to read as Notification No.FE. 5/92-SB dated the 28th December, 1992.

       iii) Paragraph 5 may please be replaced by the following:-

"State Bank has granted general permission vide Notification No.FE.4/92-SB dated the 28th December, 1992 for taking out of Pakistan currency notes of Government of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan notes up to an amount not exceeding Rs.500.00 and Rs.3000.00 in value to India and any country other than India respectively in all per person at any one time."

       iv) Paragraph 7 may please be replaced by the following:-

"Pakistan currency notes up to Rs.500.00 and Rs.3000.00 which the persons leaving Pakistan are permitted to take with them to India and to any country other than India respectively are not intended for expenditure in foreign countries but are meant for immediate expense on their return to Pakistan. Authorized Dealers should bring this to notice of the travelers when issuing exchange to them for travel purposes."

3. The copies of the Notifications No.FE.4/92-SB and No.FE. 5/92-SB both dated the 28th December, 1992 is enclosed.
